Feast of St. Gorgonius, Martyr

Introit • Ps. 36, 30, 31

The just shall rejoice in the Lord, and shall hope in Him: and all the upright in heart shall be praised. (Ps. 63:2) Hear, O God, my prayer when I make supplication to Thee: deliver my soul from the fear of the enemy. Glory be …

Collect (Prayer)

May Gorgonius, Thy saint, O Lord, gladden us by his intercession, and make us joyful on his propitious festival. Through our Lord.

Epistle • Ecclus. 31, 8-11

Dearly beloved, be mindful that the Lord Jesus Christ is risen again from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel. Wherein I labor even unto bands, as an evildoer: but the word of God is not bound. Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they may also obtain the salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory. But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, long-suffering, love, patience, persecutions, afflictions, such as came upon me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured and out of them all the Lord delivered me. And all that will live godly in Jesus Christ shall suffer persecution.

Lesser Alleluia • John 8:12

Alleluia, alleluia. He that followeth Me walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life eternal. Alleluia.

Gospel • Matthew 10: 26-32

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Nothing is covered that shall not be revealed; nor hid that shall not be known. That which I tell you in the dark, speak ye in the light; and that which you hear in the ear, preach ye upon the house-tops. And fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear Him that can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing, and not one of them shall fall to the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: better are you than many sparrows. Everyone therefore that shall confess Me before men. I will also confess him before my Father Who is in heaven.

Offertory • Ps. 88, 25

O Lord, Thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones: he asked life of Thee, and Thou hast given it to him.

Secret

May the oblation of our homeage, O Lord, be pleasing unto Thee, Thy holy martyr Gorgonius being our advocate. Through our Lord.

Communion • John 12: 26

If any man minister to Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there also shall My minister be.

Postcommunion

May everlasting sweetness be the portion of Thy household, O Lord, and strengthen it, that through Gorgonius, Thy martyr, it may constantly be sustained in the sweet odor of Christ, Thy Son. Who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
