The three children of Fatima—Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta—were only children when they faced frightening threats because they refused to reveal the secret entrusted to them by Our Lady of Fatima.
In August 1917, the children were kidnapped and taken away from the place where Our Lady was expected to appear. Lucia later described how the administrator tried to force her to reveal the secret, using promises and even threats against her life. Yet the children remained firm.
What makes this episode so remarkable is the courage and supernatural fortitude shown by these young children. When they believed they might be killed, Francisco and Jacinta were not overcome by fear. Instead, they expressed their willingness to suffer because they believed they would soon be in Heaven.
This short episode from Fatima: A Spiritual Light for Our Times explores the persecution of the Fatima children and the extraordinary courage they displayed when confronted with threats, imprisonment, and the demand to reveal Our Lady’s secret.
