The Fatima Center and Canada’s Annual March for Life
As many people are now aware, Canada’s 21st annual National March for Life, scheduled for Thursday, May 14 in the capital city of Ottawa (on Parliament Hill), has been cancelled on account of the present coronavirus crisis.
In the past few years, The Fatima Center’s National Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima had been a focal point of the March for Life. Hand-carved in Fatima, Portugal, it is one of the 25 “Pilgrim Virgin” statues blessed by Pope Paul VI on May 13, 1967 (the 50th anniversary of Our Lady’s first apparition at Fatima), and designated by the Pope to be traveling statues fostering greater knowledge of and devotion to Our Lady of Fatima’s Message. This particular statue was assigned to Canada and is the statue that Father Nicholas Gruner traveled with most often across Canada, the United States, and other parts of the world.
The beautiful statue’s prominent presence at the historically well-attended event was most fitting, given the indispensable role of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the unassailable necessity of Her Fatima Message in the present battle for marriage, the family and life in Canada and throughout the world.
The Fatima Center and faithful supporters are unable to be present physically in Ottawa for the March this year – as the government has currently prohibited such public gatherings. Nevertheless, we unite ourselves spiritually with all those who oppose the scourge of abortion and we pray for an end to this grave sin that cries to Heaven for vengeance. We especially offer prayers for those who have suffered from the horrendous affliction of abortion: innocent children and mothers foremost, but also, fathers, grandparents, relatives and friends.
The Importance of Public Processions
Yet the greatest offense of abortion is not even against mothers and their babies. Abortion is an infinite offense against God Himself.
The legalization of abortion represents a public affront to God, Who is both the Creator of all human life and the rightful King of all nations. Such laws and judicial rulings which defy the divine law are vile public crimes, sins for which all members of society bear some degree of responsibility.
It is a real duty of the faithful to give public witness in opposition to the truly criminal institution of abortion – and to make public reparation to Jesus Christ, Our Lord and King, for these outrageous, publicly sanctioned murders.
What terrible punishments we could avert from our countries if only Catholics were to respond to the crimes of our day with public prayers and penance! – by the pastors of every parish in the country organizing Rosary processions, and by the bishops throughout the country announcing a day of public penance centered around a reparatory consecration of the nation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to make some atonement for the outrage of this now publicly institutionalized crime!
God’s justice will not be mocked. Without such public efforts to make reparation for the public sins of our nations, we can all expect to suffer the terrible price that these sins will bring upon our countries.
A Time for Prayer and Penance
Thus, it is now more important than ever for all of us to turn to God in more fervent and intense prayer and penance and to heed the Message of Fatima with greater fidelity and zeal. Over 100 years ago, Our Lady brought from Heaven the only real solution to this coronavirus and any and every other disaster, plague, war or famine that threatens mankind.
Our Lady of Fatima told us that our world would suffer terrible chastisements, afflicting both the good and the evil, if we do not convert, repent and do penance. She asked all of us to pray the Rosary daily, practice the Five First Saturdays Devotion, wear the Brown Scapular, pray for the Pope, and make reparation for sin. We must implore God to grant the necessary graces for the Pope with all the world’s Catholic bishops to consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Until this is done, we must expect and prepare for ever worsening chastisements.
Abortuaries Open; Churches Closed
In the United States, many state and local lawmakers seem to be overly concerned with “saving lives” and are thereby imposing severe restrictions on the peoples’ activities. Yet, how is it that so many lives are still being taken, and so many lives are being terribly wounded, by abortion and that activity is not being restricted?
As reported on the Live Action News website: “The profitable abortion industry and its political allies are exploiting the COVID-19 crisis by carving out exceptions for abortion in published orders prohibiting non-essential and elective surgeries during the pandemic.”
This article then identifies and provides details of 9 states “who are giving the abortion industry a free pass during a time of worldwide crisis” and 15 other states “that do not specifically clarify whether abortion is permitted in their orders to halt elective/non-essential procedures”.
Thus, abortion mills are allowed to operate unrestrained while churches throughout the country are required to shut down – deemed “non-essential businesses”.
The Solution to this Coronavirus Crisis
Whenever God permits a chastisement, it is an opportunity of grace – calling men to convert and do penance. Unfortunately, it appears that the vast majority of people are still not recognizing the need for a change of heart and a rejection of sin. Face masks, sanitizers, social distancing, and other human measures will not prevent the chastisements that humanity will suffer on account of abortion, and for other socially accepted sins which offend God’s majesty and goodness.
It is urgently necessary for Catholics to live the Message of Fatima (and Our Lady’s Five-Point Plan). The world needs the Consecration of Russia and the subsequent Triumph of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart.
This is the only solution for our times which will end the evil of socially acceptable and legally sanctioned abortion. This Consecration will also bring about an end to many other grave offenses against human life and God’s honor; and it will end this current coronavirus chastisement and all its associated restrictions, as well as prevent future and worse pandemics, natural disasters, and wars.
Until the Consecration of Russia is made as Our Lady requested – by the Pope in union with all the Catholic bishops of the world – the chastisements of our world will only intensify in frequency, duration and destructiveness. Thus, The Fatima Center encourages everyone to make a 54-day Rosary Novena, begging God to grant the necessary graces for the Consecration of Russia to be properly done.
Also, with your ongoing support, Our Lady’s Apostolate can continue to be effectively present at events such as Canada’s annual March for Life, with prayers, processions, and distribution of free materials, spreading the truly life-saving Message of Fatima.
May God abundantly reward all you do for His greater glory, the salvation of souls, and the defense of innocent lives!
“Special treatment: Some states keep abortion businesses open during pandemic” (Live Action News, March 24, 2020).
We began this 54-day novena on May 1st. However, if you have not yet started praying it, we encourage you to begin praying it with us today and then continue for the full 54 consecutive days.
