Prayers Requested for Marie Corpe

Cover Image: Marie with another long-time worker/volunteer for The Fatima Center, Bernadine Dumelie (December 2010).

In your charity, please pray for Marie Corpe, a long-time Fatima Center volunteer and employee (since 2001). She has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Marie worked closely with Fr. Gruner for many years, including making and answering many phone calls at his request. She continued helping The Fatima Center after Father’s passing in 2015 and has answered many questions received via email from supporters.

During her many years with The Fatima Center, Marie has contributed to the apostolate’s work in many diverse capacities:

  • as a part-time secretary to Fr. Gruner;
  • arranging and staffing of many Fatima Center events, including conferences and Rosary rallies;
  • assisted with The Fatima Centers’ project of visiting bishops in North America and throughout the UK in 2004 and 2005 to persuade them of the urgent need for the Consecration of Russia;
  • travelled to and assisted with projects at our overseas offices in Fatima, Portugal and Rome – including distributing Fatima Center literature to the Portuguese and other pilgrims visiting the Fatima Shrine (October 2003 and again in 2004);
  • authored an article (“The Most Perfect Act of Worship”) for The Fatima Crusader (Issue #74, 2003) and our website; and
  • led, and still leads (as her health permits), a strong devotional prayer life.

Many of you might have met (and spoken with) Marie as she was a frequent staff member at many of our conferences.

A PRAYER FOR MARIE

Most Merciful Jesus, Who art the consolation and salvation of all who put their trust in Thee, we humbly beseech Thee, by Thy most bitter Passion, grant the recovery of her health to Thy handmaiden, Marie Corpe, provided this be for her soul’s welfare, that with us she may praise and magnify Thy Holy Name. But if it be Thy holy will to call her out of this world, strengthen her in her last hour, grant her a peaceful death and life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.

[Prayer taken from Instructions and Devotions for the Sick, Dying, and Deceased, Canisius Books, Toronto, Canada, 2002, p. 55.]

OTHER SUGGESTED PRAYERS

Holy Mother Church also recommends the practice of praying three Hail Marys and of seeking the intercession of the saints for any need we have. St. Gemma Galgani and St. Philomena are two of Marie’s special patrons, so let us invoke them with loving confidence.

Suggested Petition for the Three Hail Marys:

I offer the following three Hail Marys in honor of Thee, Blessed Mother, in honor of Thy Wisdom, Thy power and Thy goodness, in honor of three of the many great privileges which the Trinity has bestowed upon Thee, asking for Marie Corpe’s recovery and restoration of health [or for whatever intention one is praying for].

Note: St. Philomena miraculously healed Pauline Jaricot who was on death’s doorstep. Pope Gregory XVI was astonished that her pilgrimage to Rome didn’t kill her. He did not expect to see her again. Pauline’s spiritual director was St. John Mary Vianney, and he encouraged her to seek St. Philomena’s intercession.
