The dark and menacing storm of revolution was already raging in Tsar Nicholas’s Russia on July 13, 1917 when in Portugal, Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco knelt down in the Cova da Iria and were shown the vision of hell by Our Lady of Fatima. Having been forced to abdicate in March 1917, the last of the Romanov dynasty, Nicholas II would have just one year left to live. On July 17, 1918 the communists gunned down the Tsar and his family and then burned their bodies and buried them in an unmarked spot.[1]
Well before that happened, however, the tell-tale signs of the virus of sin, so vividly shown to the three shepherd children in the conflagration of hell, were already rampant in Russian society. So much so that it quickly became fertile ground for the demonic forces of the communists, under Vladimir Lenin, to seize control and fan the flame of revolution across the world.
By 1928, Bernard Shaw would observe, “In Russia marriage under the Tsars was an unbreakable chain. There was no divorce; but on the other hand there was, as with us, a widespread practice of illicit polygamy. A woman could live with a man without marrying him. A man could live with a woman without marrying her. In fact each might have several partners.”[2]
Our Lady of Fatima promised the children that She would come back to ask for the Consecration of Russia to Her Immaculate Heart. She warned that if Her requests were not heeded, “[Russia] will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church.”[3] This vision, along with the accompanying three-part secret, were seared into the hearts and minds of the children. Often, Jacinta in particular couldn’t help but weep and mourn for those poor lost souls burning in hell. She would even dedicate the remainder of her short life to suffering specifically for those most at risk of being damned.
In fact, just a few years later, in February 1920, during a private apparition at a hospital in Lisbon, Jacinta asked the Blessed Virgin Mary if there was one sin, above all others, that sent so many souls to hell. “Sins of the flesh” was Our Lady’s response.[4] And these sins of the flesh have greatly worsened since then, becoming enshrined in our culture as ‘normative’ under the force of Russia’s errors.
From the first assault on marriage in the one-flesh union of Adam and Eve, in Genesis 3:1, to Karl Marx’s call for the abolition of the family in his Communist Manifesto, to the depraved revolutionary Mao Zedong,[5] the dark forces fueling the communists would leverage sexual perversity and license as a weapon to manipulate and control society. For example, according to a 1990 Family Planning study on the USSR, the communists were a global leader in abortions. The Soviets made abortion so much a part of daily life that they accounted for 10-20% of all abortions worldwide. “Independent sources put the yearly number of abortions at 10-11 million.”[7] When you compare that to roughly 1.1 million abortions in the USA in 2023,[8] you can begin to see the extent to which lust and satanic sacrifice[9] are inherent to the Communist society.
But the sexual license wasn’t content to be confined to just the USSR, China or other Communist countries. Consider this, since 1990 the number of women using contraception has doubled worldwide.[10] Public acceptance of homosexual marriage has increased 87.5% in the past 28 years.[11] In the bordering country of Poland, a country who was a prisoner of Communism for thirty-seven years, there was an explosion of pornography use, increasing by more than 300% between 2004 and 2016.[12] And now, here in my own country, some 1.6 million Americans claim to be transgender and the number is growing every day.[13]
You do not need to be a prophet, or even one of the three shepherd children to see that in fact the errors of Russia have spread far and wide across the world. The sexual depravity inherent to communism has become a true pandemic. So what do we do about it?
Like the three visionaries of Fatima, we too should kneel at the feet of the Virgin of Heaven Who told us to, “Pray, pray very much, and make sacrifices for sinners; for many souls go to hell, because there are none to sacrifice themselves and to pray for them.”[14] Simply put, She is calling us to join Her Divine Son on His cross for the salvation of sinners. We should heed Her warning, while there is still time to do so.
O Holy Virgin Mary, Who destroys all heresies, pray for us!
[1] The grave of the royal Russian family remained a secret until 1979 when their remains were exhumed near Yekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk Oblast, Ural, Russia). The murder of the Tsar was carried out by Bolshevik Pyotr Zakharovich Ermakov (1884-1952) and others under the personal direction of Soviet Chekist (secret policeman) Yakov Mikhailovich Yurovsky (1878-1938).
[9] The murder of innocent babies has long been a common characteristic of pagan worship that is particularly dark. In the Old Testament, such evil was required by Moloch, demon ‘god’ of the Canaanites. This blood offering was also required by Baal Hammon, chief deity of Carthage. Today’s abortion mills are rightly considered sacrificial altars dedicated to satan whose desire for innocent blood is never quenched. Not surprisingly, American satanists today are leading the fight to enshrine abortion as a ‘right’ guaranteed by law in every state.
