Why a Catechism Series?
In the last sixty years, great confusion has afflicted the Church. Catholic schools and pulpits ceased teaching sound doctrine. As a result, two generations of Catholics have come of age with a weak and deficient understanding of the Faith. Many Catholics today cannot even recite the Apostles’ Creed or the Ten Commandments in proper sequence.
In this same time, the world has intensified its attack upon the Faith. If we don’t know our Catholic Faith, we leave ourselves vulnerable to error and heresy. It is then more likely that we succumb to religious indifferentism and even abandon the practice of the Faith. Who among us does not have loved ones who have “left” the Church?
Yet how can we distinguish the truths of the Catholic Faith from falsehoods and heresy?
It is essential to study the Faith.
The better we know and understand the Catholic Faith, the more we will appreciate its sublime beauty and our love for God will grow.
The crisis in the Church today is a crisis of faith. Holy Mother Church needs laity who will use their understanding of the Faith to dispel error and help others to find the Truth.
Please help us to spread the One True Faith far and wide.
Before You Study
A Prayer for Studying the Faith and an Act of Consecration (Raccolta Prayer 763)
Under Thy patronage, dear Mother, and invoking the mystery of Thine Immaculate Conception, I desire to pursue my studies and my literary labors: I hereby solemnly declare that I am devoting myself to these studies chiefly to the following end: that I may the better contribute to the glory of God and to the spread of Thy veneration among men. I pray Thee, therefore, most loving Mother, who art the Seat of Wisdom, to bless my labors in Thy loving kindness. Moreover, I promise with true affection and a willing spirit, as it is right that I should do, to ascribe all the good that shall accrue to me therefrom, wholly to Thine intercession for me in God’s holy presence. Amen.
St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us.
