Rise of the “Climate Change” Heresy

Is there no end to the absurdities we are expected to swallow as “Catholic teaching” in the post-conciliar epoch? Apparently not. With the advent of Laudato si a vast new novelty floats, blimp-like, into view to join all the others in obscuring the perennial teachings of the authentic Magisterium (“dialogue,” “ecumenism,” “interreligious dialogue,” “the new evangelization,” etc. ad nauseam). On the side of the blimp, emblazoned in blinking lights, is the latest slogan to distract everyone from Catholic doctrine: “ecological conversion” — whatever that means.
With the world plummeting into an abyss of depravity, as seen by such signs as Planned Parenthood’s sale of the body parts of aborted babies, the Vatican has scheduled another plush meeting in Rome to discuss something of absolutely no relevance to the moral and spiritual crisis threatening the existence of our civilization. From July 21-22 the Vatican will host a gathering of mayors from the world’s major cities under the title: “Prosperity, People and Planet: Achieving Sustainable Development in Our Cities.”
Prosperity. People. Planet. Sustainable development. These are the current agenda items of what is now — it must be said — an openly post-Catholic Vatican apparatus. God, His law and the Four Last Things are evidently no longer on the Vatican’s agenda. Indeed, they haven’t been for nearly fifty years.
But why a meeting of mayors in Rome? Here is the official explanation from Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Atheism, commonly known as the Pontifical Academy of Science. Sorondo, readers of this column will recall, is a leftist prelate who belittles Catholic opposition to the Vatican’s collaboration with pro-abortion, population control fanatics like Ban Ki-moon and Jeffrey Sachs as mere “Tea Party” activism.
According to Sorondo, during a gathering of police chiefs at the Vatican in 2014 to discuss human trafficking “the police chiefs explained that, while committed in their work, they answered to mayors and governors — not bishops.” Apparently the Vatican was surprised to learn from police chiefs that they answer to mayors and governors. Who knew? Well, that was a waste of time and money. But not to worry: this time the Vatican will hold a meeting with the mayors!
You really cannot make this stuff up. Parody has become reality in the Vatican of “ecological conversion.” And what will they discuss at this mayoral powwow? As Sorondo advises: “Following their advice” — meaning the police chiefs who apparently didn’t know what they were doing in Rome — “we have thus tried to bring together the mayors to determine the best practices to mitigate climate change and eradicate modern slavery.”
Believe it or not, Sorondo actually maintains that climate change is causally linked to “modern slavery.” As he declared on April 28: “The desired outcome is a joint statement on the moral and religious imperative of sustainable development, highlighting the intrinsic connection between respect for the environment and respect for people — especially the poor, the excluded, victims of human trafficking and modern slavery, children and future generations.” Notice the conspicuous absence of any reference to the mass murder of children in the womb or contraception, ultimate expressions of a lack of “respect” for both nature and the human person.
As the redoubtable Elizabeth Yore has put it in response to this nonsense: “The climate, whether hot or cold, raining or parched, has absolutely nothing to do with man’s inhumanity to man. Sin, especially this mortal sin [human trafficking], feeds and drives this unimaginable horror. Yet, the Vatican continues to perpetuate this absurd myth.” And Yore speaks with authority as an international child rights lawyer who has handled human trafficking cases and even served as Oprah Winfrey’s Child Advocate in South Africa.
Someone once said that we live in an age in which parody is impossible because the prevailing absurdities are incapable of enlargement. That is what we are seeing from the increasingly ridiculous Vatican apparatus, which has become a slogan-generator that outdoes even the Republican and Democratic parties for sheer demagogic distractions from what really matters.
We can only hope and pray that Heaven will act, and soon, to restore control of the human element of the Church to men who will actually profess and defend the integral Catholic faith. The Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary will be the sure sign that this degrading farce has finally come to an end.
